Please excuse that I haven’t cleaned up the edges and that I abuse the skin around my nails. Maybe using my big girl (meaning not my webcam or iPod) camera will help me quit that habit, since it’s embarassing to flaunt my janky fingers in detail.
I’m calling these mixed metal manicures, because I used a mixture of silver, gold, and rose colored glitter polishes.
I tried the idea out first by just layering the polishes over a pretty, shimmery nude color by Rimmel. Unfortunately the glitter polishes are all in a thick (as often seems to be the case with glitters), clear base. Adding a little polish thinner to the bottles helped, but I still had to wait a bit longer between coats of the glitters because of how thick the bases are.
Then I tried again over another color by Rimmel - this one is a lovely greige/mushroom/plum/fall-y-wonderfulness hybrid AND has the great wide brush that I love. I had noticed in the past that when I’ve tried sponging with glitters that the sponge tends to absorb a lot of the base and deposits a LOT more glitter, so I opted to try sponging them for this go round. I really like how this version turned out - they’re super glittery and I didn’t have to wait anywhere near as long between coats (though I think the time for application ended up being about the same as when I was doing coats with the brush and had to wait on drying)
I think these would be awesome for holiday themes - especially something like New Year’s - or fun if you just like super sparkle, like I do.
All the glitters are by Sally Girl (the little $0.99 polishes).
